We cannot by-pass submission of the mind, a holy life-style, reading the Word, etc. What praying in tongues ("in the spirit") will do is to make you more sensitive to His voice. Either praying in tongues <em>before</em> actively seeking a word from the Lord, or even <em>after</em> seeking Him, will often be very helpful. Praying in and by the Spirit allows Him to inspire our own spirit-man, and hence become much more sensitive. A caution: just praying in the Spirit without giving due attention to other areas of our life will not, and does not, help. Our whole life, spirit-soul-body, needs to be submitted to the Holy Spirit.
